Hip Replacement – Curiosity Cured The Cat
As hip replacement procedures go, few are stranger than
the one undertaken in New York recently. A stray tabby cat found
wandering the streets of Manhattan received a hip replacement at a
Long Island veterinary centre.
Hip replacement operations are typically reserved for those in
old age and, predominantly, humans but one lucky cat in New York
was counting its blessings after being rescued from the streets of
the Big Apple and receiving a hip replacement procedure that was
sure to put a spring back in the young tabby’s step. According to a
report on Newsday.com, the cat was suffering from a multitude of
injuries and required the hip replacement surgery to help save its
life.
Hip Replacement – Nine Lives
Cats are famed for their durability but according to the report
on Newsday.com, one cat by the name of Winston required a little
help from vets to get back on his feet. Hip replacement operations
on cats are a relatively recent innovation and have only been
around for the last three years or so. The surgeon behind the hip
replacement operation on the New York cat explains the difficult of
the procedure being akin to a hip replacement on a new born baby as
the hip joint of a cat is no larger than a pea. According to the
report on Newsday.com, the veterinary surgeon behind the hip
replacement operation, Dr Dominic Marino, hoped that Winston the
cat would make a full recover and would be able to walk properly
again in no time.
Hip Replacement – Winston’s Home Hope
According to the report on Newsday.com, the surgeons behind the
hip replacement operation on the injured tabby cat, Winston, found
wandering the streets of New York, hope that, once fully recovered
from the hip replacement procedure, that he can be adopted by a
loving family. The surgeons believe that the cat was probably
struck by a car but don’t believe Winston to be a feral cat because
he is highly friendly. Speaking to Newsday.com, Dr Marino stated,
“Everybody's falling in love with him and wants him. He is such a
sweet, sweet cat.”
